Last day- London Tower and Chihuly

View Scotland/London on Ludema00's travel map.

Yesterday was our last day in London. We visited the Tower of London, known as the saddest place on earth. Other than the Crown Jewels (which we couldn’t take pics of) and the Memorial for those executed there, there really wasn’t much to see other than buildings. We did see where Anne Boleyn’s remains are. The best of the visit was our Beefeater guide. Learned a lot from him including that they are the Queen’s guards and actually live on the premises of Tower of London. They also guard the Crown Jewels. We then trekked via the Underground to Kew Gardens and the Chihuly exhibition there. It was at the Royal Botanical Gardens and was spectacular. There were several items he rarely shows. Then it was home to pack and be ready for our 5 AM pick up.

Harry Potter and a Thames Cruise

Karen and I took a bus, the tube and a train to see the Warner Brothers Harry Potter stage sets. It was done very well. You got see many of the sets, costumes, how they worked with visual effects and CG. Being Harry Potter fans we found it very interesting. Afterward we picked up Char and Saint and went on a Thames cruise. It was quite cool and windy but got to see more of London.

Churchill’s War Rooms and the Tower across the street

View Scotland/London on Ludema00's travel map.

I walked across the street today to climb the tower attached to the Garden Museum. You go through a door that is about half my height and then climb 131 very narrow, spiraling stairs to the top where I got a great view of the area we are staying in. Parliament building is across the river from us
(unfortunately Big Ben is completely covered with scaffolding) and we can see the London Eye. It was a great View!
Afterward Karen and I went to the Churchill War Rooms. What a history lesson. Amazing.
In the evening we saw the musical Tina (Tina Turner’s story) at the Alwych Theatre. Wow, what a performance by the cast and especially the lead. They even had a bit of a sing-a-long at the end.

London- Buckingham Palace

View Scotland/London on Ludema00's travel map.

Since the Queen is on Her annual vacation in Balmoral, we were able to visit Buckingham Palace and see the State Rooms. I will include a couple pics here but they are pictures of postcards because we could not take pictures. We saw everything from the Throne Room to the Dining Room. There was also a special display honoring Queen Victoria on her 200th Birthday. It was spectacular. We got to see the Horse Guard’s changing of the Guard and the the changing of the Guard at the Palace.
Afterward, we went to Harrod’s. You need a very fat pocketbook to purchase anything there but it’s an experience. All high end brand names. I found several items I would love to have but I don’t really have anywhere to wear them!

Edinburgh- our last day in Scotland

Oh yes, we tried Haggis!

View Scotland/London on Ludema00's travel map.

Edinburgh was our last stop in Scotland. The weather was quite nice and no wind thankfully. We visited Holyrood Palace which is the Queen’s Palace in Scotland although she vacations in Balmoral. We were not allowed to take pictures inside. However, we did get pics of the outside, the old Abby, and the Gardens (I can see why she likes to walk her Dogs there). From there we walked up the Royal Mile and stopped in a little restaurant for a nice meal with Lee before she had to head home, and yes, we tried Haggis. It wasn’t too bad if you didn’t think about what’s in it.
Tomorrow we head to London.
